Elliott Ng, vp of marketing at trip-planning site UpTake, says he’s leaving the company on a full-time basis to pursue start-up passions related to “China and/or social media.”
Ng, a veteran of the technology-conference circuit and an indefatigable podcaster and tweeter on China and travel technology, says he will remain as an active advisor to UpTake, which is “in great shape.”
He says he doesn’t have specific plans to announce, but in the interim has put together, in stealth mode until now, Venture Sprout as a place to nurture some entrepreneurial and “unbloggable thoughts.”

Hope we’ll continue hearing from one of the guys who gets it! Let’s see if some of his new ventures will be in travel, wouldn’t be surprised. China and travel technology a great combination with huge potential. Best of luck, Elliott
@Dennis,
Thanks, I’ll still be flying the UpTake flag for a while as an Advisor and at PhoCusWright. The challenge will be separating myself from the mother ship so I don’t become cheap labor for Yen!
@Joe
Thanks for the warm thoughts. I think it was hanging out with Jens Thraenhart in his single, unattached, fun, smiling self in Beijing that did me in. No matter what, I’m going to be a fellow traveler with you in the unpaved (but rapidly discovered) roads of social media and travel.
UpTake-like, we should ask Elliott to define his next move in four steps:
1. Tell us why
2. Find it fast.
3. Get the skinny.
4. Book it.
See, Elliott. Planning your next move is a slam dunk.
Best wishes to Elliott on his latest endeavors!
@Dennis, we make it sound easy.
Pat: There’s absolutely nothing complex about booking travel, is there?:)
