Metasearch engine Skyscanner has unveiled three new country domains as it continue its global expansion programme.
The UK-based engine was running language sites for users in Austria, Sweden and Switzerland but has today launched Skyscanner.se, Skyscanner.at and Skyscanner.ch as dedicated country sites.
The launches follow a similar roll-out in November 2009 for Skyscanner sites in Brazil, Russia, India and China.
Bosses say the primary reasons for introducing country-specific domains is for SEO and to establish the Skyscanner brand in a local environment.
The company now has 20 country sites around the world and the ability to display fares in 61 currencies.

would be great if they would extend the eligibility for traffic to these site to their affiliate program as well rather than limit it to traffic from the us, uk and germany…
Hi Martin.
We have had to refrain from rolling out the affiliate programme to all markets for a number of reasons. The main ones being the levels of monetisation in these news markets and the internal resource we have to support and maintain an affiliate programme properly.
As you can imagine, it takes a while for a new market to get traction from both a user base and commercialisation level – to one which would support a commission referral based model.
Kind Regards
Barry
