Sabre launches new desktop, Sabre Red Workspace, and a blog

sabreSabre launched a Sabre Red blog and a new agency desktop, the Sabre Red Workspace.

Details are sparse and Sabre will provide more in a webinar this morning.

Sabre describes the Sabre Red Workspace like this:

“The core of the Sabre Red travel solution is our powerful Sabre Red Workspace. It’s not just another “desktop” as other companies are touting, but a customizable workspace that provides unprecedented flexibility to put everything users need right at their fingertips.

“The Red Workspace is built on a technology platform that is among the most elite systems in the world. In fact, this future-ready open technology is the same used by NASA to command its missions to Mars. Superior speed, superior dependability, superior flexibility, superior ability to simplify complex operations. The only difference between them and you? The ultimate destination of the trips managed.”

The Sabre Red Workspace is “free” to Sabre-connected agencies, although some features require a fee.

The solution is designed to streamline agencies’ workflows by placing all travel information, including GDS inventory, in a single place, without a lot of clutter.

The solution has the capability to handle multiple GDSs, will use GDS formats or offer a graphical view, as well.

All current users of the MySabre (PDF) desktop will be upgraded to the Sabre Red Workspace in 2010, the company says, and will be given 30 days notice.

Sabre Red Workspace will feature apps written by Sabre authorized developers, and users will be able to write their own Red Apps, or convert existing apps, Sabre says, using standard development tools — .Net, Java, Flex, Flash — or by using Sabre Qik Developer.

Well, at least Sabre has not banned Flash from the platform as Apple has done with the iPhone and iPad.

“In fact, this future-ready open technology is the same used by NASA to command its missions to Mars.”
Come on guys… This is really a stupid sales speech… Yes GDS’s are robust but I hope NASA is using better technology to guide missions…

Whatever, Sabre tries to build a buzz around this product but the blog is almost empty!

  2. Dennis Schaal Dennis Schaal says:

Regis: I totally agree that Sabre’s references to Mars and NASA were, well, really out there.

Nor does it surprise me because Sabre has been to known to get carried away in its marketing hype.

I wrote about the desktop based on Sabre’s blog post and before they had discussed it or released any press information about it.

Since the Sabre blog launched this morning, don’t worry, I bet they have a few more posts up their sleeves.

    • RĂ©gis says:

Yes, I look forward to get additional information… Based in Paris I did not realized it is still quite early in Texas ;)

  3. Sabre Red says:

@Regis – we certainly appreciate your feedback on the discussion this morning as well as the blog content, or as you point out, the lack thereof.

We actually just launched the blog this morning at 8am CDT in conjunction with the announcement. With three posts up already and a few more on the way, we are excited about the opportunity this new channel brings to engage with customers and our industry peers on a more frequent basis.

And we’d love to get your feedback on the blog and Sabre Red as we continue to move forward – what part of the industry are you in?

Thanks to you, and to Dennis/Tnooz as always, for your candid feedback.

    • While it’s technically possible to use Sabre Red Workspace on devices like iPads through various remote desktop utilities, we recognize that the look and feel wasn’t intended for such devices and that technology investments are required by our customers to get it up and running. We are looking at different options for an agent workspace that is intentionally designed to work well with any variety of personal, Internet-connected devices (smartphones, tablets, etc.), and we will be working with customers like yourself for input on key features in the near future.

      • Carol says:

Still want to know if we can use Sabre Red Workspace on the iPad. And, if there are “remote desktp utilities” that help, can you please advise what they are. Would love to be able to travel with Sabre….so can I do it?
