Twitter travel group readies downloadable cookbook to benefit small communities

Twitter tweets may turn into some pretty good eats and donations to small communities in Asia, Africa and Latin America.

Two active travel agent tweeters, Stephanie Diehl and Jodi Harrelson, are creating an e-cookbook of international recipes, which will be called Tasty TwEats.

The cookbook idea grew out of ZipSetGo.com’s Twitter chat, called #TNI (Travelers Night In), which takes place weekly on Thursdays at 3:30 p.m. EDT. During the tweet-up, travelers trade ideas about destinations and — literally — everything under the sun.

Melanie Nayer writes that the cookbook “is a mash-up of all the best food and recipes from around the world, as tried and tested by those who’ve traveled far on an empty stomach.”

Travelers can contribute a recipe by emailing tnicookbook@gmail.com. They can contribute a favorite — sometimes exotic — recipe  for free and likewise don’t get paid for it.

The organizers are encouraging hotels and cruise lines to contribute recipes and to purchase ads, as well, Diehl says.

So, in addition to the fun of organizing a grassroots, international cookbook conceived within the social media bandwidth, the organizers are soliciting sponsored advertising, with all of the funds going to Planeterra and its projects in small communities throughout the developing world.

In addition, Gap Adventures pledges to match all of the ad sponsorship monies and other donations.

Combining travel, social media, food and some good deeds seems like a  delectable electronic-publishing recipe.

When complete, Tasty TwEats is expected to be available via download for a minimum $10 donation.
