Vinny: You are correct. The governor signed the law. I wrote about it here. http://bit.ly/aT1dZc There appears to have been a last-minute compromise with the governor and mayor backing and amendment calling for delaying the law’s implementation until May 1, 2011.

That sets up a lot of time for some more legalistic jockeying between the law’s proponents and opponents.

This is clearly heading for the courts.

Well, He has signed it into law or so I have heard at this late hour.

I think the Governor is a wise man and I am sure he was planning to veto this, I am wondering what happened. Apparently Mayor Bloomberg had some influence on him and I am sorely disappointed. I thank those who have come to the forefront thus far with letters of support against the bill. I foresee an expensive fight ahead that will cost the taxpayers of this city as the legitimate owners of B&B’s and apartments who have NEVER had a complaint, and don’t own affordable housing to begin with will certainly not just accept this and close there doors.

Jay: Yes, my oversight…I should have mentioned that B&B owners likewise would be hurt by the bill. Well, we should know by tomorrow what Paterson will do.

Dennis – the bill would also have a detrimental effect on the city’s B&Bs, which would not be allowed to operate under the new law. I wrote to Governor Paterson and Mayor Bloomberg about it and supported the efforts of http://www.protect-vacation-rentals.com. I think the law is a bad idea, but clarity indeed is needed with the current law that allows for B&B and vacation rental operations.
