UPDATE: Southwest spokeswoman Brandy King says Southwest.com began experiencing problems mid-morning and was “back up and running as of 3:03 p.m. [Central]”
King wasn’t immediately aware of the cause of the problems.
The original post follows:
Southwest.com has been experiencing problems for several hours.
Southwest, known for its adept use of social media, has been tweeting apologetically about the outage, although, as of this writing at 3:40 p.m. EST, the most recent update about the situation from SouthwestAir had been more than three hours earlier.
The airline tweeted: “Southwest.com is experiencing some issues this morning. We are aware and are working hard to get it back up to speed! Hang in there!”
When one clicks on the car tab or online check-in sections of Southwest.com, visitors see a statement indicating that the “website is undergoing maintenance and is currently unavailable.”
Is it really “maintenance?”
Lots of unhappy and unsympathetic followers on Twitter, complaining about the airline’s lack of transparency and long waits on the telephone.
I just tried calling the toll-free number listed on the website and got a busy signal.
Someone just tweeted that she was just able to book a flight on the website.
There’s been no word from Southwest on the cause of the problems.
