GateGuru in major app upgrade, adds Kayak, TripIt, tips and social

GateGuru has unveiled a significant overhaul to its airport assistance application including integration with third party itinerary trip planners and product reviews.

Hitting the iTunes appstore just before Christmas, the second version of GateGuru is apparently the company’s biggest upgrade since launch and brings in a string of new services.

Perhaps the most significant is integration with TripIt and Kayak Trips, so users can access their itineraries from within the application, touted by CEO Dan Gellert as moving from a “Yelp for airports” to a wider platform of services for travellers.

As well as changing some of the user interface and flow around the app, perhaps the other major additions are a new security waiting time function and review service.

The former prompts users to send details of how long they waited in a queue (so over time different areas of an airport can obtain an average waiting time or users can see what are the shortest current queues).

The review system is simple – users can leave a tip or review of a particular service at an airport (best free wifi, best taxi ranks, etc).

GateGuru has also added ten new airports into the system, including terminal maps, stretching into Europe through Paris, Amsterdam and Frankfurt.

Sharing tools to allow users to send updates on their whereabouts to Twitter and Facebook are also included in the upgrade.
