Hipmunk tries to take agony out of mobile flight search

Given that the Hipmunk experience is based on a highly visual and, well, wide format it was always going to be interesting to see how it would migrate to a mobile app.

hipmunk app

Released into the Apple appstore today, Hipmunk has produced an iPhone app covering four of the main functions of its existing flight search service.

After entering the usual From and To fields, plus dates and destination, fare type, dates and number of passengers travelling, the app sends users to a remodelled version of its results screen.

Fares are displayed in the existing block format, but users scroll by either using arrow buttons or moving the screen by hand.

The user can also toggle between the “Agony” results or by cost, length of journey or duration. Once a block is selected the user is sent to another screen for confirmation before a redirect flies off to the supplier’s mobile site.

Hipmunk’s move into mobile comes just a week after Skyscanner unveiled its iPhone application and joins the popular Kayak suite of smartphone and iPad apps.
