San Francisco to Paris – a two-minute time-lapse with Aurora Borealis

Coffee-break fodder. Here is a wonderful piece of time-lapse video created following a flight from San Francisco to Paris Charles de Gaulle on Air France.

The two-minute clip was taken using a Canon 5D Mk2 camera, with time-lapse controller and 16mm-35mm lens.

The camera took the shot every two miles between take-off and landing in Paris and was supplemented with computer model shots for the runway segments (due to restrictions on electronic device).

Conceptually it’s a fun idea and shows what can be achieved with relatively cheap or free equipment (for both shooting and editing, the latter using Apple iMovie software).

But the best moment is clearly when the footage caught the majestic natural phenomenon that is the Aurora Borealis in the night sky.
