Doubles all round in the marketing department for Carnival Cruise Lines after passing the one million fan mark for its Facebook page.
The cruise line made the milestone last week, four years after establishing a presence on the omnipresent social network and with recent rapid growth of consumers “liking” its fan page.
According to an independent Facebook tracking service, Carnival is adding close to 5,000 new fans every day, although it has some way to go before it reaches the heady levels of stars Eminem and Lady Gaga which have 42 million and 40 million Facebook fans respectively.
Carnival is the first cruise line to pass the one million fan barrier and one very few travel organisations to have also passed the same mark. Disney has 26 million Facebook fans, adding 22,000 new fans every day.
The company uses its fan page for a vast array of functions, such as promoting special offers, competitions, YouTube videos of its ships, polls, and trip search tools.
