How airlines use Twitter – September 2011 [INFOGRAPHIC]

Latest monthly report from Eezeer outlining the activity of airlines on Twitter around the world, with Southwest taking the accolade of most public tweets received by a carrier.

Southwest received double the number of tweets than third place Delta, with much of the activity being put down to a single incident during September.

The carrier achieved a lot of publicity over an unfortunate episode with one of its passengers, L-Word actress, Leisha Hailey.

Hailey was kicked off a flight after passengers complained about her “excessive” affectionate behaviour with another woman

Southwest took a lot of stick for asking Hailey to leave and the incident sparked internet outcry, hence the massive increase in mentions on Twitter.

  1. How is the Leisha Hailey story a #FAIL – the fact that it happened, or a failure of Southwest to use social media to respond appropriately to the negative publicity?
