- Looks like it was a sort of Travel Massive gathering without the usual open bar at the White House the other day with 20 or so travel industry C-suite executives pressing the executive branch on the travel agenda. Among the travel-tech big-wigs at the conclave were Sam Gilliland of Sabre, Barney Harford of Orbitz Worldwide and Dara Khosrowshahi of Expedia Inc. The executives were there to support the Obama administration’s travel and tourism strategy and to lobby for additional economic and job-growth initiatives in the travel industry.
- Lonely Planet will be using Buy.at and Affiliate Window for its affiliate campaigns in the US and the UK. The deal sees the guidebook and web content publisher will “provide revenue opportunities for publishers via Lonely Planet’s online bookshop and, later on in the year, a range of travel services, which includes hotel bookings, travel insurance and tours”.
- Dolphin Dynamics¬†and CWT Digital have collaborated to introduce live booking tools for 12 major cruise lines on third party websites. The facility, by way of CWT Digital’s Click2Cruise booking system, allows Dolphin customers to sell cruise product from the likes of¬†Celebrity Cruises, Costa Cruises, Cunard, Fred Olsen, NCL, P&O, Princess Cruises and Royal Caribbean International.
- Colombia-bound for PriceTravel, the Mexican online travel agency. The OTA is launching operations in the South American country under the PriceTravel.co domain as well as five retail kiosks in some of the the capital’s high profile shopping centres. PriceTravel also has a presence in the US and Argentina.
- Two wins for airline and airport tech provider SITA¬†with Latin American carrier GOL¬†agreeing a deal to take applications and services (via FlightMan) for its electronic flight bags on its fleet of Boeing 737s. SITA is also working with¬†RAK Airways¬†to provide its Horizon passenger service technology to the¬†Middle Eastern carrier.
