The Louvre, the world famous Paris-based gallery, has taken a leap into the 21st century with the launch of Nintendo 3DS audio guides.
The touchscreen devices are providing visitors with a 3D perspective on some of the works of art the museum hosts such as the Mona Lisa and the Venus de Milo.
The Nintendo technology also enables visitors to get up close and personal with the works as well as see them from angles that would not normally be possible.
The audio guides, which are available in seven languages, feature a mapping function showing visitors exactly where they are in the museum as well as a number of themed tours such as masterpieces while an Egypt tour targeting families will be released soon.
The Louvre is hoping the devices will help it keep in step with the young demographic it attracts with more than half of the 8.9 million visitors last year aged under 30.
