Babyboomers are overtaking their more youthful Gen-Y equivalents in smartphone ownership according to a report from BDRC Continental into British hotel guest habits.
The study reveals ownership amongst babyboomers, those aged between 48 and 66 for the purpose of the study, is growing twice as fast as among Gen Y.
The report also shows a spike in smartphone ownership among leisure travellers with 61% now having a device compared to 47% in 2011 and 36% in 2010.
By contrast, smartphone ownership among business travellers has tailed off with only a two percentage point increase this year compared to the 15 point surge to 73% experienced between 2010 and 2011.
Searches for hotel contact details as well as location via GPS were the two most common uses with hotel booking across mobile coming in at fifth place.
BDRC Continental took babyboomers to be born between 1946 and 1964, Gen X to be 1965 to 1981 and Gen-Y as born between 1982 and 1993 for its latest British Hotel Guest Survey.
