What else is going on in the world of travel tech? A round-up of other stories from across the industry?
- Improvements to official destination site for Whistler in Canada following months of work to improve search and booking functionality. The platform allows users to perform the entire process of finding and securing travel services in the region on Whistler.com rather than being sent away to a third-party website.
- Rategain picking up new vendor roles with news that it will be representing Choice Hotels International. The deal sees it provide Choice’s 5,000 US franchises with use of its rate intelligence service PriceGain. Brands in the deal include Comfort Inn, Clarion, Rodeway Inn and Comfort Suites.
- GetTaxi is looking to target travellers to the UK capital by developing a mobile application to help them find and call London’s famous black cabs. The service works by allowing travellers to secure and pay for a pick-up and then receive a photo of the driver, mobile number and registration sent immediately to the handset.
- BBC America wants to help British expats living in the US by launching a new service called Mind The Gap. The site, produced in association with UK carrier Virgin Atlantic, provides tips and advice to Brits on everything from traditions and culture as well as how to navigate through administrative tools necessary to live in the US.

Good to see the mention of Whistler.com. What you may not know (shameless plug coming) is that the Whistler.com booking engine is built on the Inntopia platform. More and more Inntopia users are building custom bookings interfaces on the Inntopia reservation and rules engine. Whistler.com has done a fantastic job with their implementation — glad to see it featured here.
More info here for those who are interested: http://corp.inntopia.com/?p=1253
On a side note, not sure why they are described as the ‘unofficial’ destination site. Whistler.com is owned and operated by Tourism Whistler.
@trevor – duly noted.
Maybe you need to have a word with Patricia – she issued the press release and scandalously forgot to mention Inntopia
They’ve earned the right to toot their own horn – they’ve done a fantastic job with customizing the Inntopia booking engine.
We love being able to show people what they have done.
Hello. Thank you for the reference to the whistler.com website and our enhancements. I just wanted to point out that http://www.whistler.com is the official tourism website for Whistler.
Thanks!
@patricia – oopsie, fixed. Apols.
