Agency and airline leaders take a fall – Top US travel websites, August 2012

Both Expedia and Southwest Airlines saw their market leading positions at the top of the leading travel websites in the US eroded during August.

The low cost carrier carrier’s share of the airline category fell by over 0.5% between July and August, as rival carrier Delta in second spot picked up 0.25%.

In the agency category, Expedia lost over 0.25% over the same period. Fellow OTA Priceline also managed to shed just short of 0.25%, while Travelocity and Hotwire swapped positions, the with former leapfrogging into third spot.
