Priceline says its app covers the most markets for last-minute mobile bookings of hotels

One year ago, Priceline launched Tonight-Only Deals as a last-minute hotel booking tool for its mobile app, and today Priceline claims that it offers geographic coverage of about 150 US markets on a typical evening, making it “the largest last-minute hotel deals service for mobile equipped travelers.”

The app’s coverage has more than tripled from the 34 US markets it covered last September.

Tonight-Only Deals is part of the Priceline Negotiator app, a free tool for Apple and Android devices and the mobile-optimized version of Priceline’s site.

The company touts that the handful of selected deals that it promotes on its app in any given market are individually checked prior to posting to make sure they actually can be booked through.

Six months ago, Priceline deployed a service comparable to Tonight-Only Deals for Booking.com.

In other news, Priceline did a survey of users of its Tonight-Only Deals. The survey found that Sunday is when most travelers use smart phones to book hotels, though Thursday is when Priceline tends to offer the deepest same-day hotel discounts.
