Tripsy switches to Trevi six months after launch

Stories of travel startups which have shut shop after a year or others which change direction after an initial push are numerous but not that many change name six months after launch.

Step forward Trevi, a mobile application which organises images and videos into a virtual memento or journal of a trip and was previously known as Tripsy, Tlabs showcase here.

Founder Ryan Kaminsky says the initial launch was a prototype and the team wanted to see what the reaction would be.

One of the reasons for the name change was to give the company the opportunity to broaden the app to appeal to a wider audience than just travellers.

And, Kaminsky explains, there was also a bit of confusion with Trippy - the trip sharing and planning app.

Now, more than six months on, the company has expanded the team with a designer and an additional developer and revamped the app to make it more slick.

Recent updates include a travel timeline to view images by day or month and plot them on a map as well as the ability to zoom in on the map and have the pictures come up.

“We still want to focus on travel memories and a lot of the time when you  have a memory there is some kind of location associated with it. One of the biggest goals now is to make people want to come back to the app.”

The app has been downloaded more than 15,000 times.

Not a bad app idea. Im not sure if it;s one that would be frequented too often though.

  2. Pete Meyers says:

Big fan of the name change. Helps lessen brand confusion while still implying the experience of travel.
