Days after the all clear from the Federal Aviation Administration for American Airlines pilots to replace paper manuals with iPads in the cockpit and the airline has revealed details of its tablet programme for flight attendants.
The airline is the first in the US to make the move and later this year will claim another first when it begins handing out the Samsung Galaxy Note to each of its 17,000 cabin crew.
AA unveiled plans to use tablets for inflight entertainment just over a year ago opting for the Samsung Galaxy for its size and lightweight.
The tablets will be used for customer information including name, seat number and frequent flier status, which can be viewed in list or seat map view.
It will also help attendants identify high-value customers or anyone with special requirements and record meals and beverage preferences.
Additional services, pending FAA approval, include providing passengers with information such as connecting gates, weather reports and delay updates, which will automatically be updated when the devices are connected to wifi.
On-board transactions via the devices, again pending FAA approval, are also part of the plan.
