Good ol’ Arthur Frommer, founder of Frommers Travel Guides and one of the first industry bloggers who still regularly shares his views on the state of the sector.
Just after Christmas, Frommer posted his latest article on Arthur’s Blog, this time¬†outlining the major travel trends of the previous 12 months.
His eight industry trends for the year covered everything from the rise of the Airbnb-drivel rental marketplace (including a warning about the various sensitivities around the legal situation for owners) and tours and activities to bundled airfares and the commercialisation of cruise ships.
Frommer does a good job of explaining some of the issues affecting the industry, with a folksy and concise style.
But, wait, alongside from a little faux pas over the nationality of Ryanair¬†(as one commenter points out when taking Frommer to task for suggesting the carrier is British: “That’s controversial.”), surely Frommer missed a ninth, potentially needle-moving item from his list?
Perhaps regarding the sale of a certain guidebook publisher to one of the biggest technology companies in the world, announced in August last year.
Unless, of course, Frommer doesn’t think it was THAT important or significant after all…
