Southwest shows airline rivals who is the daddy – Top US travel websites, January 2013

After seeing its lead narrow at the top of the most popular airline websites in the US in recent months, Southwest has returned to form and pushed ahead of its rival carriers.

The airline added almost 2% market share to its tally during January, extending its lead over second placed Delta to almost 10% and 12% ahead of United.

Delta and United lost 1.25% and 0.5% respectively over the same period.

    It’s mind-blowing to see that the market leader is Expedia even though it only has 14% of the market. It shows how fragmented travel sites are.

    I think you may have the wrong data in the “Travel search terms” chart. Those look like the top Canadian travel sites to me.

    Meanwhile, you recently posted a list of the top ten vacation rental sites, but I can’t seem to find it. Would you mind pointing me in the right direction?
