Spotted by Locals brings neighbourhood flavour to Google Field Trip

Spotted by Locals has scored a bit of coup by making it on to Google Field Trip – one of only two travel guide publishers to provide content to the mobile app.

Now when Android users, who have the virtual tour guide application running in the background, will not only be alerted to places of interest nearby but also tips from locals where available.

Spotted by Locals, founded in 2008,  has about 245 locals in 46 cities providing information and advice on restaurants and other neighbourhood tips.

Launched last September, Google Field Trip was developed by Niantic Labs@Google which is like a startup organisation within the search giant that is allowed to focus on new products.

Content from Time Out is also featured on the app which is customisable and designed to learn from users’ choices.

As a quick update, there’s another travel guide publisher included in Field Trip as well – Historvius.com. We linked up with Google on this great app last year and users can find fascinating historical places all around them through this collaboration.

It really is a fascinating app and quite unique in the way it allows you to personalise the content you view by selecting which specific content providers you want to see – there are loads of interesting sources so this means you can get a very defined experience based on your own interests and requirements.

    • Hi Mike,

My apologies, we must have missed Historvius on our search for travel guide publishers in Field Trip. There wasn’t a good list of partners! My mistake, I have updated it in our press release.

My apologies, and I hope to stumble upon your tips using Field Trip. Also can’t wait for the iPhone app to come out!
