Concur continues spending spree, acquires ConTgo for location-based services

Concur has acquired  mobile specialist ConTgo with terms of the deal undisclosed.

The travel and expense technology specialist says the acquistion takes it a further step towards its vision of the perfect trip and extends the value of its T&E Cloud with location-based services and mobile communications.

The acquisition is interesting at a time when corporates are striving to find some common ground between keeping travellers in policy and enabling them to use mobile tools to create a smoother journey.

ConTgo unveiled its corporate travel application last year combining mobile, social and location-based elements to ensure travellers can receive pertinent alerts, have access to offers and deals and stay in touch with the travel team back at the office.

The app is also integrated into ConTgo’s MapCast traveller tracking system.

A statement announcing the deal says the acquisition will enable Concur to use itinerary data, location information and historical traveller behaviour to improve the traveller experience.

The technology also enables travellers to formulate their trips around colleagues, access timely offers and discounts from merchants and hook up with people flying into the same airport for potential car-pooling.

Concur has made a string of investments in the past two years including $2m in voice technology specialist Evature last November when it unveiled its $150m Perfect Trip fund and the acquisition of TripIt just over a year ago.
