ExpertFlyer diagrams partnership with SeatGuru for more seat information

ExpertFlyer and SeatGuru are teaming up to give road warriors more information about airline seat availability and preferability.

Subscribers to ExpertFlyer will be able to pair the website’s existing data about seat availability and alerts with SeatGuru’s seatmaps showing desirable and undesirable seats on some 700 aircraft from almost 100 carriers, the companies say.

SeatGuru is part of the TripAdvisor Media Group and ExpertFlyer is part of privately held Expert Travel Services.  The two companies’ services overlap and appear to be somewhat competitive with one another.

For the record, ExpertFlyer co-founder Chris Lopinto isn’t buying the competitor theory.

“We don’t do any of what TripAdvisor does and TripAdvisor doesn’t sell the airline data that ExpertFlyer does,” Lopinto says.  ”If anything we’re very complementary, hence the benefit of this partnership.”

The SeatGuru service will be available on ExpertFlyer to all of its subscribers.

Here’s an example of what the integration looks like:

ExpertFlyer uses GDS services to determine seat availability and offers an alert service to notify travelers when a seat becomes available.
