What Else? TripIt founders, OnAir joy, Cleartrip hires, Anite-Thomas Cook, Cheapflights mails, SpeedRFP

What else is going on in the world of travel tech? A round-up of other stories from across the industry.

  • Two TripIt co-founders, Gregg Brockway and Scott Hintz, are leaving the company about 14 months after Concur acquired the itinerary management service. In a blog post, the duo say they are “traveling on”, with Brockway planning on literally doing some traveling and Hintz hoping to work on his home. TripIt was founded in October 2006 and now counts 5 million users, including 1.5 million mobile users, the company says. A third TripIt co-founder, Andy Denmark, plans to remain in his post as vice president of engineering, the company says.
  • Lots on OnAir news this week during the annual Aircraft Interiors trade show in Germany. The company is to provide what it claims will be the first in-flight connectivity on routes between Europe and both North and South America following a deal with TAP Portugal. OnAir is also deploying its technology on the remaining A380 aircraft belonging to Emirates, as well inking a deal with MondoWindow to include the startup’s services (TLabs here) where OnAir uses the TriaGnoSys system.
  • Cleartrip brings in seasoned travel and FMCG exec Samyukth Sridaran to become chief operating officer and president this week. Sridaran was most recently chief commercial officer at SpiceJet in India. He has run sales and marketing teams in a number of other sectors including insurance and advertising.
  • Anite has signed a multi-year contract to build and support a new reservation system for Thomas Cook‘s mainstream holiday business in the UK. Winning the contract to use the @comres platform at Thomas Cook is expected to put Anite’s overall financial performance “at least in line” with the company’s figures from the previous year.
  • Doubles all round at Cheapflights after celebrating the arrival of what it claims are six million subscribers to its newsletter. The number has jumped by 20% in six months, it says. The bulletin contains deals from its database of 300 partners worldwide alongside expert guides and other content.
  • More news from SpeedRFP with the launch of version 2.0 of the service, allowing users to book any kind of group business from any hotel website using a single form. The cloud-based system is targeting not just corporate meeting buyers but also wedding planners and organisers of other social gatherings.
