Vic Darvey, vice president of distribution for European online travel agency giant lastminute.com, is leaving the company and the travel industry for good after securing a job in the financial world.



Tnooz has learned Darvey will be leaving the agency at the end of year to take up a new role in online trading.



A well known figure in the European online travel sector, Darvey was previously group commercial director for the company and joined as part of the acquisition of technology and distribution provider Online Travel Corporation in 2004.

Executive shake-up at TravelMuse as CFO Lemelin becomes CEO

Travel-planning website TravelMuse is looking for some inspiration and more monetization as it promotes CFO Russ Lemelin to CEO and assigns co-founder and CEO Kevin Fliess to a board position.



In separate interviews, both Lemelin and Fliess say Fliess several months ago broached the subject to the board of making a change to get the company, launched in beta in September 2008, to profitability.



I haven’t see any board minutes so I can’t say whether or not this is merely well-coordinated spin.

The BlueSky-Thomas Cook saga is potentially entering its final days as administrators juggle with five bids for the Intellectual Property Rights of the beleaguered company’s iTour software system.



Tnooz understands that although the bidding process is officially still open, administrator MCR is already evaluating the five bids on the table and is expected to make a decision “far quicker than normal”, a source says.



The five companies are believed to be technology shops Comtec, Traveltek, Partners Software and another unnamed tech firm, alongside Thomas Cook, as revealed earlier this week.

Green shoots of recovery in travel job market, led by tech

There are some indications that travel job market is picking up over the past few months after what most have said is the worst period in history for the travel, tourism and hospitality industry.



Politicians will try to avoid the phrase “green shoots of recovery” at all costs, simply because it’s often seen as a fool’s game to predict any sign of a return to normality, however a number of folk with more than a passing knowledge of the recruitment sector are hopeful that the worst period is now over.



But what is perhaps the most interesting nugget in all this is signs that the tech jobs are driving some much of that resurgence in the market.
