Sharing economy – much to do, plenty to offer [INFOGRAPHIC]

Shock, horror! Almost six out of ten Millennial Americans are aware of the sharing economy but less than half of consumers as a whole have knowledge of such services.

Nothing particularly surprising there – brands such as Airbnb, Uber, Lyft et al have arguably positioned themselves (and by the mainstream) to that generation of young folk.

That is slowly changing, obviously (thus the 47% figure of all generations being aware, according to a study by Allianz Global Assistance).

But there is still a certain degree of confusion, perhaps apprehension about “sharing”-type services, Allianz found.

The study showed that only 8% of travellers considered sharing economy services have a “better quality product” than those featured on so-called established methods such as online travel agencies (41%).

In fact, OTAs appear to be winning across the board when it comes to other factors such as authenticity of local experiences, value for money, booking flow, customer support and overall experience.

So, some way to go…

Here’s a general infographic from Allianz about its study (larger version coming):
