Day Three of Five – How to manage a reputation online

A critical point to consider is being the best AND first port of call on the web.
While you may not be intent on building a shining personal brand, the bare minimum everyone should aim for is to be the best and first source of information about themselves online.
Completing profiles on Facebook and LinkedIn are a must, because people will look there for you and also I would also recommend completing a Google public profile and setting up a personal webpage.
If you can’t delete, compete
If there is embarrassing or negative content about you on the web (from critical blog posts and press articles or just plain unflattering photos from a party) it is sometimes possible to have it deleted (if you ask nicely, for instance) but often not.
The more you can do to establish a strong personal online presence, a bigger web shadow if you will, the more you will be countering negative impressions of you.
