Hotels put best foot forward on social media [INFOGRAPHIC]

Best Hospitality Degrees has come up with this cute infographic on how hotels are using social media to best effect.

There’s some good stuff in here about how the use of smartphones for travel plans as well as social media check-ins.

Key findings include the top five uses of smartphones while travelling:

  • Taking photos
  • Using maps
  • Searching for restaurants
  • Searching for activities and attractions
  • Checking in prior to flying

Further interesting findings include the impact of using social media to research a trip:

  • 52% changed original plans
  • 33% Switched their hotel
  • 10% switched resorts
  • 10% Switched booking agent/operator/website
  • 7% holidayed in a different country
  • 5% switched airlines

The graphic also highlights examples of hotel companies putting social media to good use as well as other travel brands such as Royal Caribbean Cruise Lines and Disney which are targeting specific audiences – mums – with their social media efforts.
