MasterCard uses Yapta for airfare tracking service

MasterCard Worldwide launched MasterCard PriceAssure, a program, powered by Yapta, which enables travelers to track airfare price drops and get credits.

MasterCard cardholders can enroll for free in the program and when they use the card to book flights directly with eligible airlines, they can opt-in to receive price-drop alerts and then seek to get a credits from the airline.

Alternately, they can pay MasterCard $19.95 per itinerary and MasterCard will claim the credit from the airline on behalf of the passenger. The fee is waived for World Elite MasterCard cardholders.

Eligible airlines include AirTran, Alaska, American, Continental, Delta, Hawaiian, JetBlue, United, US Airways and Virgin America.

MasterCard PriceAssure is the first implementation using Yapta Business Solutions, which offers APIs enabling travel management companies, websites and mobile apps to develop benchmarking data or institute airfare price-tracking programs.

Looks like a smart move by Yapta and a good implementation. Kudos to them for inking this deal.

If only could strike a similar deal for car rentals. 🙂
