Mobile boarding pass from United is refreshing

United Airlines introduced mobile check-in and mobile boarding passes from certain airports in the U.S.

The mobile boarding pass is “refreshing” because refreshes bring updates of seat-assigment changes, gate updates and upgrades.

Travelers using a mobile phone or web-enabled mobile device can check in for their flights at starting 24 hours before departure.

United’s mobile website is powered by Kony Solutions.

After check-in, passengers receive an e-mail link to a mobile boarding pass with a two-dimensional barcode. Travelers can scan the mobile boarding passes at airport security checkpoints and gates, United says.

The mobile check-in is good for United and United Express flights within the U.S., Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

For now, the mobile boarding passes will work for passengers departing from United’s five hubs and from Dallas-Fort Worth, Las Vegas, New York LaGuardia, Orlando, Philadelphia, Phoenix, Portland and Seattle airports.

United plans to expand the number of airports with mobile-check-in capabilities “in the coming weeks.”

From United’s mobile website, which is in beta, passengers also can check flight status, flight availabilty, itineraries and their Mileage Plus accounts.

Late last year, Kony Solutions launched a mobile solution for airlines, hotels and car-rental companies. The solution offers features including mobile check-in, mobile boarding passes, flight and gate status updates, frequent flyer account access, and special fares and offers.
