Weep or laugh, then learn – brutal and hilarious spoof exposes cliches in startup world

You are at another startup conference, innovation session, or simply listening to some wonderfully bright-eyed and bushy tailed entrepreneur…

We love startups at Tnooz, but we also adore those that are willing to take a step back and mock the scene a little bit for its cute cartoons, hyperbole and ridiculous clichés.

Step forward Vooza, a spoof startup which has released a series of videos which are at times just too painful to watch, but ultimately just incredibly funny.

Classic lines:

  • “We think of revenue as a journey, not a destination.”
  • “Ashton Kutcher – he was once tweeted about a guy we met at SXSW.”
  • “Vooza brings together group messaging, recommendations and local search, in a way that’s real-time and customisable. And, also, we steal data from your phone and sell it.”
  • “We changed our name to Googooptrrrrrrr – that’s with six ‘Rs’…”

Anyway, here is its debut…

And, if that first clip couldn’t be beaten, here are the staff interviews…

These guys are just awesome! Pivoted 4 times over and been 4 years in beta. And Radimparency is just the best.

    +1 for the background score.

Your pitches are awesome! Can you send me a one pager for your start-up? 😉

“…Where you can leave user reviews… on members of your family…” XD
Radimparency is my new favorite word!

  4. Alexander Maltsev

I want to work in this startup!

Hey, you forgot to mention that someone in the company is from the PayPal mafia and that you have guidance on instructions for your technology that comes straight from space aliens. You’ve also amasses a cadre of a zillion patents (business processes such as how to accurately describe a volcano explosion) and that every company on the planet will be paying you license fees. Oh, and you started in a garage.

That was a fantastic way to start the day. Multiple belly laughs.

Utter genius. All we need now is for someone to build stumble monkey….

Note to self: Cool idea! Use multiple consonants in next startup domain name 😉

@alastair – confession: deliberately highlighted that quote to see if you’d notice… 😉

Very funny. I love the nonsensical “It’s like [successful start up] combined with [totally different successful start up], with a little bit of [somewhat successful start up, that has nothing to do with the other two what so ever].”

I love it. I had to laugh because as funny as it is, I can’t tell you how many “legitimate” start-up pitches I’ve seen that are almost identical. Oh and revenue is not a journey… it’s the gas in your tank (ooh, no one use that, it’s mine)
